Rendsburg/Kiel, Germany - The ceremonial keel laying of a next Nobiskrug superyacht-new build project took place at the shipyard’s premises in Kiel.
After gathering of the guests and the yard’s team and following a short address of the management, an 80-ton block-section was lifted by crane into the building shed, marking another important milestone of the construction of the 80-meter superyacht. The construction of all sections with a very high degree of outfitting up to assembly of the complete hull will take place in the sheds of the yard under controlled climate conditions – therewith warranting utmost quality. This is a unique construction process at Nobiskrug and only possible due to the impressive and suitable facilities counting a 900t gantry-crane that serves all sheds through the roofs as well as all gravity docks on the Kiel-site – the longest dock measuring 426m. It is also the first project that benefits from another latest major investment on the sites – a state of the art plasma cutting machine worth abt. 1 million Euros adding complementary to the existing cutting machines.
Traditionally, the Owner brought a special coin that was placed under the keel and once the yacht will be near to completion, the coin will be retrieved and presented back to the Owner for good luck while sailing the oceans.
“This happy occasion indicates the start of the hull assembly of the superyacht – when, for the first time she is considered to have a soul. It is also a traditional maritime ceremony to bring good fortune to a vessel during her construction and to her captain, guests and crew during her life” said Holger Kahl, Managing Director.
This technically fascinating yacht with outstanding, unique design features both in the exterior and interior styling will noticeably set a mark for the future use of glass on superyachts. The spacious and modern concept and the innovative technology of the vessel will contribute in creating a special comfort feeling while cruising in the beautiful areas of the world.
“Nobiskrug is known for pushing the boundaries and for not being a mass builder, every superyacht we build represents a unique vision of the owner – this project is just another example we are very proud of” added Holger Kahl.
After the keel was laid, the Owner and guests were invited for lunch in the Sky-Lounge on top of the 900t gantry crane which is one of Kiel’s landmarks. It offers a reception area at an approximate height of 100m and an impressive 360-degree panoramic view of the Kiel-Fjord.
Still to be named, the 80-meter superyacht is set to be delivered in 2019, when it becomes the next gem of the Nobiskrug fleet of bespoke SUPERYACHTS FOR THE 22nd CENTURY.
NOBISKRUG is proud to announce the delivery of the most advanced sail-assisted superyacht ever built: “Sailing Yacht A”. Measuring almost 143 meters (468ft) and a gross tonnage of about 12,600 GT; she will become one of the greatest PYC superyachts in the world in terms of design and technology.
Working with the dedicated Owners project team, NOBISKRUG engineered and constructed a masterpiece. “Sailing Yacht A” leads the way with her revolutionary engineering and design. She is one of the world’s largest and the most advanced superyacht with unique features such as underwater observation pod, hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system and state-of-the-art navigation systems. The three masts are the tallest and most highly loaded freestanding composite structures in the world. The mainmast towers 100 meters above the waterline.
World-renowned Philippe Starck created the unconventional design, which challenges the expectations of conventional aesthetics as he did for Motor Yacht A.
NOBISKRUG high-tech building technology made this fascinating design possible. Steel hull and steel superstructure with high-tech composite fashion plates that can be formed into any shape or size, a technology NOBISKRUG has developed during the past 15 years in co-operation with classification societies and special subcontractors.
“Born from the desire of the owner to ‘push the boundaries of engineering and challenge the status quo of the industry’, “Sailing Yacht A” is undoubtedly one of the most visionary projects NOBISKRUG has ever been involved in”, says Managing Director, Holger Kahl.
Thanks to her striking looks and innovative technology “Sailing Yacht A” is unquestionably the most anticipated delivery of 2017. She will definitely change the future landscape of the NOBISKRUG fleet as well as the future of supersail.

MUSE – “A woman, or a force personified as a woman, who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist.
”Bannenberg & Rowell’s new collaboration with Nobiskrug aims to create a yacht with distinctly feminine lines, which nevertheless builds on concepts the studio has developed over the last eight years; an evolution from hard edged, masculine forms to gentler, more curvaceous shapes.
“The design studio Bannenberg & Rowell is renowned for its history, creativity and contemporary designs. The concept MUSE is a great example of how the studio explores the same fundamental shaping ideology for both architectural building blocks and for the yacht’s external form, resulting in a free flowing synergy between interior and exterior space” says managing director Holger Kahl. “With Nobiskrug being the market leader in innovation and bringing to the market truly one of a kind yachts, it was only a matter of time for such a collaboration with Bannenberg & Rowell”, adds Holger Kahl.
Lifestyle remains the primary driver for Bannenberg & Rowell’s work, simultaneously informing interior and exterior design. “How people actually live on board underpins everything we do. It’s been a meeting of minds working with the Nobiskrug team. In fact a meeting of open minds where they have been keen to explore new forms and shaping without ever saying that it can’t be done.”
The flush deck pool is one of the principal focal points of the yacht, with built-in retractable awnings overhead for shade. It also serves to diffuse natural light into the main salon; here the circular aft threshold maximises glazing and openings, and informs the yacht’s geometric language. The engine room ducts are located forward, almost amidships, away from the pool, connecting with the more inwardorientated spaces such as technical areas, pantries and stairwells.
Descending aft of the pool are full width steps, leading down to the beach platform, some 9 metres long and open at the sides. On the platform itself a concealed bar with integral shade rises hydraulically out of the deck and serves as the focus for water activities. Toys, tenders and water sports equipment are housed in the garages either side of the pool, and in large recesses beneath the aft steps.
Bannenberg & Rowell has designed an alternative option for this area providing an enclosable beach clubhouse and spa. In this mode full flexibility for exterior access
and views is provided by drop down platforms both sides, and by a large central step section that pivots up hydraulically to form a shading canopy over the beach club and bathing platform.
Guest stairs on this main deck level are distributed evenly aft of amidships, not only linking adjacent spaces above and below, but also acting variously as spatial
dividers, alternative viewing points and, in the case of the aft exterior stairs, as structural supports.
Seven guest suites are located forward on main deck while the owner’s suite is housed above on a dedicated owner’s deck. A sinuous corridor forms the spine of the owner’s suite; entry to the master bedroom from port side outboard enables the aft bedroom bulkhead to be stepped back away from the side glazing. For the
owner this provides greater viewing angles aft, and panoramic views from the suite’s rotating bed.
Teak on the aft decks flows in an almost liquid fashion over the aft and side edges, greatly smoothing the distinction between the various planes. Bannenberg & Rowell’s ‘Infinity Decks’ allow edges and boundaries to disappear into the horizon. Enhancing these uncluttered sight lines and views, cantilevered glass balustrades are buried into the teak around the aft decks.
The superstructure coamings are organically shaped to emphasise the yacht’s gentler form. Similarly, the sun deck roof effectively grows around the semipermanent awning that provides shade to the aft sun deck.
Nobiskrug's collaboration with Bannenberg & Rowell aims to present a yacht that leaves much to the imagination, at the same time satisfying all Owner’s needs for a perfect cruise.
The Schleswig-Holstein superyacht builder is presenting itself at the legendary “Monaco Yacht Show”. The international fair is taking place from 28. September until 1. October in Port Hercules of the Principality.
The organizers are expecting more than 500 manufacturers; many of which regularly show their luxurious yachts there. The fair is known to be the world’s most renowned Boatshow.
NOBISKRUG is specialized in the building of large and technically complex superyachts. Many of the super yachts built here are award-winning. Presently there is another spectacular new building emerging in the building dock of the Kiel sister yard German Naval Yards Kiel: with more than 140 m the new sailing yacht is one of the world’s largest of its kind. Another sailing yacht is presently being in construction phase.
„We are very pleased to be part of the Monaco Yacht Show,” Holger Kahl, Managing Director at NOBISKRUG, said adding, “The atmosphere in Monaco is unique. This is a gathering of the world‘s best yacht builders. Port Hercules is offering an excellent frame for presenting NOBISKRUG as well as for expert discussions and customer meetings.“
Last weekend, The International Superyacht Society (ISS) Regatta gathered 10 yachts of 37ft and over 70 industry professionals for two days of competitive sailing on the Solent off the South coast of UK.
The event comprised seven races targeting to display the full spectrum of sailing abilities combined with fun and networking. Both days were favored with beautiful weather but extremely tricky conditions for sailing. Despite light and shifty winds, spring tide and strong currents, the NOBISKRUG team was able to achieve very good results and even win the unexpected first place.
